The Yucatan Peninsula is a limestone shelf with no above- grounds, rivers or lakes. Instead there are underground rivers, lakes, sinkholes and caves. The caves of the Yucatan were sacred places for the mayan and are impressive places to visit.
In a tour along the rough paths of the “loltun” cave, visitors will see various sets of crystal columns, stalactites and stalagmites, and natural deposits of water called “haltunes.” There are also remains of bas relief engravings, sculptures, and mural paintings.
